PROTECT Act (2022)

Issue: Free Expression

Latest Action: Failed on January 3, 2023

While it claims to prevent the distribution of intimate visual depictions without consent, the PROTECT Act is merely another attempt by fringe anti-porn groups to shut down adult entertainment websites. The bill would require sites to:

  • obtain consent to each act depicted and distribution of the specific image from each individual appearing in the content – including retroactively.
  • allow models, parents, or law enforcement to withdraw consent for previously-shot content and require it to be taken down immediately
